designing for the elderly
designing for the elderly
[academic project: fall semester 2021-22] --In contemporary society, multiple and urgent challenges emerge. Architectural thinking and its ability to deal with complex and multi-level problems is the best tool society has at its disposal to respond to these difficulties. This studio in general focuses on exploring the links between social infrastructure and architecture in modern society by designing a building with special qualities. Taking everything into account, this specific project is discussing the problem of housing in a shared living condition, focusing on 65+ users. While it is obvious that forms of companionship and social interaction are rapidly changing, the current housing system no longer responds to contemporary needs. In fact, it can be argued that we need to redefine architecture itself and adapt it to modern requirements to optimize people’s quality of life. This is the reason why the project focuses on reconsidering the idea of multi-housing and aims to go beyond the traditional concept of the nursing home.
